VINEYARD

We source our Chardonnay from two regions, Carneros and Knights Valley. The Carneros terrain, where we grow Chardonnay is marked by well-drained, rolling hills sloping to San Pablo Bay. The proximity of the bay moderates the vineyard microclimate with morning and evening fog and afternoon breezes. Knight’s Valley is an area also marked by cool marine influences that provide a long-growing season to develop even and optimal ripeness.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

The 2011 vintage was ideal for Chardonnay. The cool temperatures allowed the grapes to ripen slowly to develop complex flavors while retaining vibrant acidity. The yields were low with small berries that had remarkable intensity.

VINIFICATION

We begin our winemaking work in the vineyard, cultivating the vines using sustainable farming techniques and following nature’s lead as the growing season unfolds. Fermentation is achieved with indigenous yeast, which is followed by 16 months aging in French oak barrels. The wines are aged sur lie and treated to rigorous stirring before blending and bottling.
